About Tooth Extractions

What to expect from a safe, comfortable extraction — and how to heal smoothly.

A painful tooth should not ruin your day. At Mega Dental, we offer safe and gentle extractions to alleviate discomfort and maintain oral health, with simple and surgical options tailored to your needs — no swelling, no stress, just effective solutions.

When do you need an extraction?

Teeth sometimes need to come out when they're too damaged to fix. Deep cavities or infections can make saving a tooth impossible, wisdom teeth may not have enough space, broken teeth may not hold a crown or filling, and crowded teeth may need removal so braces can work. We take X-rays to see the tooth's condition and plan the best approach.

Simple vs. surgical extractions

Simple extractions remove visible teeth — we numb the area, loosen the tooth, and gently remove it with gauze for healing. Surgical extractions are needed for impacted or broken teeth; a small incision is made and stitches may be used for better healing. We explain the procedure and provide aftercare tips for a smooth recovery.

Preparing for dental implants

Extractions often prepare the mouth for dental implants. Damaged teeth must be removed first, the jawbone may need time to heal, and bone grafting may be needed if bone loss is present. Proper healing ensures implants fit securely for a lasting result.

Pain and recovery

Managing pain properly helps a smooth recovery. Use prescribed or over-the-counter pain relievers, apply ice packs to reduce swelling, rinse with warm salt water after 24 hours, and avoid touching the site with your tongue or fingers. Healing typically takes 3 to 7 days, with rest and soft foods speeding the process.
